Granite performanceGranite can perform well in freezing climates, but the commercial name alone does not establish durability. Reliable selection combines verified stone identity, representative absorption and strength data, a project-defined freeze-thaw evaluation, suitable…

Granite performanceGranite slip resistance depends on the finished surface, moisture, contaminants, wear and test method—not on the stone name alone. This guide explains how to specify and inspect granite for floors, stairs, patios and paving.

Granite performanceGranite weight depends on volume and the tested density of the selected stone. This guide provides formulas, reference calculations and purchasing checks for slabs, tiles, paving and cut-to-size work.

Granite performanceGranite compressive strength is the maximum axial load a stone specimen withstands before failure. The value is useful for comparing materials, but it must be tied to a named test method, representative samples and the intended application.

Granite performanceGranite generally absorbs little water, but performance must be verified for the specific stone, finish, production lot and intended application. This guide explains laboratory results, field checks and sourcing controls.

Granite performanceGranite slabs are sold in nominal dimensions, but usable size, thickness variation, edge condition and flatness must be confirmed for each block, finish and production lot. This guide explains how to specify and inspect them.

Choose the sink cutout reference line, check cabinet and support clearance, confirm the template and compare remedies when an installed sink is off-center.

Compare real light and dark granite samples in the room, then judge reflections, everyday marks, cleaning and your own preferences without a resale promise.

Investigate external rust deposits and possible iron-related changes in the stone before choosing a compatible product or a restoration plan.

Confirm the material, finish and treatments, then distinguish a deposit, stain or surface change before choosing a compatible cleaning method.

Distinguish a bonded stone seam, a movement joint and stone impregnation before choosing a seam-maintenance or repair product.

Separate a topical epoxy coating from stone repairs or impregnation, then assess recovery and unanswered food-contact questions for the actual product.

Assess a broken granite corner by the remaining stone, support, repair visibility and the fabricator’s proposed reinforcement before choosing a remedy.

GuidesDecide whether to trim an installed granite countertop, change the fridge opening, or hire a fabricator while controlling dust and damage risks.

Granite performanceSmall, stable granite chips can often be filled with a compatible stone-repair resin. Accurate damage assessment, careful color matching, controlled curing and finish-specific inspection determine whether the repair is acceptable.

Granite performanceGranite stain removal starts with identifying whether the mark is absorbed contamination, surface residue, temporary moisture or finish damage. This guide explains first-response cleaning, stain-specific treatments, poultice application and inspection…

Granite performanceClean granite with a soft cloth, warm water and a small amount of neutral cleaner or mild dishwashing detergent. Rinse away residue, dry the surface and investigate persistent marks before applying stronger chemicals.

Granite performanceGranite does not automatically require sealing. The decision should reflect the exact stone, finish, application, absorption behavior and proposed sealer rather than a fixed maintenance schedule.
Read field note ↗
Granite careCloudy residue or uneven darkening after sealing does not automatically mean the granite needs more sealer. Stop, identify the product and treatment history, allow the stated cure period, and determine whether the symptom is excess residue, temporary…

Granite careA dark granite spot that fades as the stone dries is usually moisture; one that remains, spreads or follows a spill may be oil or another absorbed substance. This guide provides a non-destructive diagnosis sequence, treatment limits and inspection points for…

Granite careThe water-drop test is a simple screening check for liquid uptake at a granite surface. It can indicate where water is entering the stone, but it cannot measure laboratory absorption, prove stain resistance or establish a universal resealing schedule.
